A project manager is responsible for creating a team that is able to work autonomously. They are in charge of projects from initiation to close, making sure the work gets done effciently and satisfactorily. As team leaders, they delegate with team members, schedule tasks that can change from day-to-day, and budget the cost of the entire project. It is a very dynamic role! Project managers are also responsilbe for assisting in the plan and develop phase of creating projects, they work with internal stakeholders and external clients to define the concept and create a process to bring the project to fruition.
The average pay of a starting project manager can start anywhere from $33k-$62k per year. These numbers may vary depending on demand for project managers, as well as the priority of the project.
Previously, Kara Orapallo, was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, teaching Project Management. Currently, she works at DNEG as the Vice President for Training, Outreach, and Artistic Development. She designs and implements training programmes for DNEG's global crew memebers, plan artistic development programs to encourage continued growth, and lead their outreach with universities and artist communities around the world. Orapallo has previously worked on animated shows such as Rise of the Guardians, Trolls, and Monsters vs. Aliens. She has also produced for studios including DreamWorks, Netflix, Skydance, Paramount, Reel FX, and Mikros.
I chose project managing because I enjoy delegation and working with others to conceptualize and bring a creative project into fruition. I'm fascinated by team dynamics and find the laborious job of working with others to be challenging yet fulfilling.
I want to create a music archive library that curates conceptualized playlists to site visitors. On the website, each playlist will have a description of how each song weaves into one another to create a storyline that fits a particular aesthetic and/or mood. I think it would be interesting and fun for music enjoyers, or people who like to tell stories through their song choices to visit a website like this where someone has curated a list for others to enjoy.
